ARTIST: Virginia Hole
EXHIBITION DATE: May 2018
STYLE OF WORK: Textile / Mixed Media
My work is inspired by nature especially plant life. i am particularly interested in colour, shape, form and texture. The combining of various paint mediums with fabric and stitch is the means by which I interpret my observations.
Colour and shape is a driving force in my work, I like to play with how colours sit together in art and in the reality of nature and how shapes and form can be simplified and abstracted.
I have taught textile art for well over twenty years and love both hand and machine stitching and am a staunch advocate of pushing a traditional art form into a contemporary form of expression. Since leaving teaching, I am finding an enthusiasm and excitement in exploring new ways of working and recording what i see.
I am delighted that the sugar cube gallery has enabled me to show some of my recent work and hope visitors enjoy “plant forms in thread“.
