The term ‘pop up’ perfectly describes the early days of the Sugar Cube. Mia offered her textile pieces to hang on the very bare walls during a studio conversation over a cup of tea with Lizzie and so the Sugar Cube was born.
Her exhibition of contemporary textile work consisting of laser cut aluminium covered with colourful digitally printed canvas was the very first to appear in the Sugar Cube. They were intended to be either viewed as one continuous surface or individually as we presented them in the Sugar Cube. The inspiration for the pieces came from studying manmade structures in the built environment and the Spanish artist and architect, Antoni Gaudi.
