STUDIO LOCATION: Netherhay Chapel, Drimpton (4m s/w Crewkerne)
Originally from the Gloucestershire Cotswolds, I moved to West
Dorset (equally beautiful) in the 1980s. My working life began as a potter making sgraffito decorated earthenware (drawing through one layer of clay to reveal the different body colour underneath).
The drawing of the image became more important to me than the making of the pot, so I went back to college to study illustration, whilst working part time as a gardener. Freelance illustration work followed, mainly book and editorial publishing and some advertising. Tight deadlines and small children didn’t go well together, so illustration work took backstage and I just painted for myself whenever I could.
The medium I use depends on the subject matter, I have painted in acrylics, watercolours and combining oil pastels with watercolours. Recently I have been working more in oils and also gouache. My work includes commissions for paintings of people’s gardens, (sometimes the houses too!)
I open my studio to visitors whenever I can, but have no set opening times – if the weather is OK I like to be outside somewhere painting, with Holly dog as my companion and retriever of sticks.
