ARTIST: Donna Vale
EXHIBITION DATE: April/May 2016
STYLE OF WORK: Printmaking & textiles
STUDIO LOCATION: For Every Cloud – Langport
Donna creates work through a collection of ideas, stories and history, displayed in a variety of ways. Deterioration and weathering plays an important part, incorporating wartime letters, photographs and the sound of conflict. Textile pieces are interwoven with narratives belonging to local voices.
An element of the Sense of Place project, ‘The Threads Of Belonging’ shows Donna’s work through place and identity. She created these pieces during her artistic residency last summer at the Brean Down fort on the north Somerset coast. Personal stories and events were researched to create a visually appealing exhibition. Using sound and smell to ignite senses and trigger emotion. Through recollection and memory the viewer is taken on a story-telling journey.
A fleeting glance, a missed opportunity and time captured creates a feeling of loss and of hope through the work displayed within the fort buildings. The artwork is viewed and the moment taken away to be remembered another time.
Donna’s exhibition in the Sugar Cube will be running until May 27th. If you’d like to come and meet her and find out more about her work and the Sense of Place project then why not join us for her private viewing event on 8th April – 5 till 7pm in the Sugar Cube.
